Create and edit media activities

Turn the same learning goal into illustrated slides, an audio conversation, an explainer video, a comic, music, or a game. Each format has a focused editor so you can refine the content and preview the experience learners will use.

Add a format and open its editor

  1. For a new course, tell the creation assistant which formats you want when it asks about the learning structure. Check that they appear in the outline before approving the build. See Course creation.
  2. For an existing course, use Workspace Assistant and name the topic, format, source, and desired result. For example: “Add a lecture to the Welcome call topic using the attached checklist. Teach the three preparation steps.”
  3. Make sure the topic has learning objectives. Lecture, Podcast, Comic, and Jam generation need goals to work from.
  4. Wait for generation to complete, then open the activity to review its content and media.
  5. Open Edit and the course contents selector. Expand the topic and select its activity.
  6. The activity opens directly for editing. Use the course-level Preview to inspect the learner experience.

Use a source-specific request to make the first draft useful:

Format Example request to the assistant
Lecture “Use the attached procedure to make a visual lecture explaining the three preparation steps.”
Podcast “Create a two-speaker conversation explaining the approved welcome-call process, using this checklist.”
Video “Create a narrated explainer of the workflow, using these product screenshots in order.”
Comic “Show a new teammate following the procedure in a short comic; keep the dialogue consistent with the checklist.”
Jam “Create a song that reinforces the topic's learning goal and the three approved preparation steps.”
Arcade “Add a game question set that tests the decisions in this topic, with explanations grounded in the source.”

A topic supports one activity of each format. To give learners two separate lectures in a sequence, use separate topics.

Lecture: edit slides and illustrations

  1. Open the topic's Lecture activity in Edit.
  2. Select a slide in the image carousel using its thumbnails or previous/next controls.
  3. Below the carousel, find the matching slide number and edit its Title, Bullet Points, Speaker Notes, and Illustration Description. Enter one bullet point per line.
  4. To change the slide image, enter a focused request in Describe changes to this slide… and submit it.
  5. Inspect the generated image preview. Choose Accept to keep it or Reject to retain the previous image.
  6. Open the course-level Preview. Use Previous slide, Next slide, or a numbered slide control to check the sequence and readability.

Use the text fields to refine slide content. To update wording or artwork inside the illustrated image, describe the visual change and review its generated preview.

Use original document pages as slides

Attach the PDF or deck through course materials, then explicitly ask the assistant to use its actual pages as the lecture. Name the document and page range. For example: “Use pages 2–5 of the attached welcome-call deck as this lecture; preserve their order.”

If you want only the extracted diagrams or figures, say that instead. Reusing original pages and generating new illustrated slides produce different results. When splitting a source across lectures, give each lecture its own page range.

Podcast: edit the conversation

  1. Open Podcast in Edit.
  2. Edit the Episode title.
  3. For each script segment, select its speaker and edit what they say.
  4. Use Add Segment, or the plus control between segments, to add a turn. Use a segment's trash control to remove it; the editor keeps at least one segment.
  5. Save your script changes. Text edits do not create new audio.
  6. Wait for generation to finish, then open the course-level Preview. Play the episode and compare it with the Transcript. Use the playback position and 15-second skip controls to check the changed passage.

For an audio change, describe the required update to Workspace Assistant. Review the full episode and transcript together.

Video: choose generated, uploaded, or hosted content

Be explicit about the source when requesting a Video activity:

What you want What to provide
A generated explainer Ask the assistant to create a narrated video about the topic.
Your existing video file Upload the file to chat or Materials, then ask the assistant to use that uploaded video in the activity.
A video on your existing host Supply a supported Vimeo or Brightcove link and ask to use it as a hosted video.

Use an uploaded file to bring an existing recording into the course. For hosted video, enable embedding on your learning-site domain in the host’s settings.

Edit a generated video

  1. Open the Video activity under the topic. Its learner-facing format can appear as Explainer.
  2. If the editor shows one Step at a time, use Previous step and Next step to choose the relevant section.
  3. Change Spoken narration, Voice, or Artwork change. A separate Caption field appears for the caption style that supports it; word-by-word captions follow narration.
  4. Use the bottom bar to submit the edit. Generate updates narration, voice, or artwork. Caption-only edits use Save. Discard removes unapplied changes.
  5. If the editor instead shows a Scenes list, edit the relevant scene fields and use the bottom Generate or Save control. The current video remains playable while the edited version is rebuilt.
  6. Open the course-level Preview and watch the affected section. Check the narration, artwork, captions, and Show transcript panel where available.

Use the step or scene editor for a focused change. Render options are saved for future video creation.

Follow the video director

When you ask Workspace Assistant to create a Studio video, the Video director runs as a subagent. Select its entry beneath the active chat session to read its progress and conversation. Select Back to chat to return to the main conversation. The Studio editor stays open beside it.

The director plans the scenes, creates the media, and assembles the video. A storyboard is a plan, not a playable video. If you request only a storyboard, media generation does not start. For a complete video, check the timeline and play the result before you distribute it.

Build a video in Video Studio

Video Studio combines video clips, images, audio tracks, text, and captions on an editable timeline. Select a Studio video in Edit to open its timeline directly.

  1. Open the course's Video activity in the editor.
  2. Select Media to upload footage or generate an image, video clip, or music.
  3. Add the media to the timeline.
  4. Drag video clips to change their order.
  5. Drag independent audio clips to change their start times or row order.
  6. Right-click a video clip to split, trim, duplicate, adjust, or delete it.
  7. Select Save.
  8. Open Video options and select Export MP4 to update the rendered video.
  9. Wait for the render to finish.
  10. Review the video in the learner experience before you publish the course.

Audio waveforms show the sound in each track. Audio edges snap to nearby clip boundaries or the playhead. Hold Alt while dragging to disable snapping. Linked replacement speech moves with its video clip. Use Undo in Video options to reverse an edit. When Workspace Assistant creates a video, scenes appear in the timeline as they finish. Select a finished scene to preview it while other scenes generate. When generation finishes, the timeline opens for editing. If generation stops, completed scenes stay available. Open Media to review the saved script and generation controls.

The completed Video Studio timeline contains three generated clips

The selected clip’s inspector exposes timing, transition, speed, framing, and caption controls

Drag the boundary above the video tools up or down to resize the preview.

Long videos extend horizontally. Scroll sideways to reach later clips. Use Fit to see the whole timeline, or zoom in for detail.

Select Timeline, Media, Transcript, or Graphics to change the lower panel. The video stays visible above the tools. Clip properties also open in the lower panel. Select Timeline to return to the tracks.

Ask Workspace Assistant to generate source images or footage, place media, reorder clips, or adjust independent audio. Generated sources appear in the video's media library. Saving preserves the editable project; rendering creates an updated MP4.

An activity with the classic video editor keeps its own editing controls, described above.

Add real screenshots to a generated explainer

Where the video editor provides Screenshots:

  1. Select Add.
  2. Choose Upload, Course images, or Walkthrough frames. Add up to three images.
  3. Give each screenshot an accurate name and description. Reorder them if needed.
  4. Save the screenshots. Ask Workspace Assistant to use them when creating or updating the video.
  5. Watch the new result and check that it uses the intended screens.

Edit an uploaded or hosted video

  1. Open the activity in Edit and correct its title.
  2. For an uploaded video, edit Notes and Transcript as needed. Use these fields for the accompanying text. To replace the recording, attach the new file and ask the assistant to use it for this activity.
  3. For hosted content, use Hosted video URL or iframe code and enter the supported link or embed. Use hosted video switches an existing video entry to that source type; only choose it when you intend to replace the current source.
  4. Save and check the course-level Preview. For hosted video, confirm playback works for the intended audience, including any host-side access restrictions.

Use the scene controls to edit generated videos. For hosted content, supply a transcript alongside the player when you want learners to follow the video in text.

Comic: edit the story and panel artwork

  1. Open Comic in Edit.
  2. Select the panel you want to inspect in the image carousel.
  3. Edit its Scene Description, Alt Text, and Dialogue. Use Add line for another speaker's line and fill in the speaker and text.
  4. To change the actual image, use Describe changes to this panel…. Inspect the preview and choose Accept or Reject.
  5. Open the course-level Preview. Check every panel, including dialogue rendered in the artwork.
  6. Choose Flat view for a straightforward reader or 3D view for an interactive presentation. Switch to flat view opens the flat reader from the 3D screen.

Use dialogue fields to refine the accompanying text, and request an image change to update illustrated speech bubbles. In flat view, use Previous panel and Next panel; the 3D reader provides page-selection, zoom, and rotation controls.

Jam: edit song titles, lyrics, and order

  1. Open the topic's Jam activity. It may be labeled Jam session in creation controls.
  2. In Edit, expand a song row to inspect its title and lyrics. The genre badge and associated learning goal help identify the track.
  3. Edit the song title or lyrics. Drag song rows to change their order.
  4. Save changes to the song text. Text edits do not create new audio. Describe required music changes to Workspace Assistant.
  5. Open the course Preview, choose Jam session, select a song, and use the playback controls. Compare the sung words and displayed lyrics, especially after a change.

A generated Jam organizes songs around the topic's learning goals. Review the result for factual accuracy as well as musical presentation.

The Jam editor shows the fictional song title and full lyrics in the editor Seventy-Two, The Northstar Prep, playing with generated preparation lyrics

Arcade: edit the questions behind the game

  1. Open Game or Arcade under the topic in Edit.
  2. Inspect each question, its options, the selected correct answer, and explanation.
  3. Use Add Game Question to add another question and Add Option for an additional choice. Keep the question and choices short enough to read during play.
  4. Save your changes and open the course-level Preview on a desktop or laptop.
  5. Wait for the game to load, then select Start game. In City Run, select Run! to begin.
  6. In City Run, use the left and right arrow keys to move into the lane for your answer while avoiding obstacles. Use the game's mute, restart, and full-screen controls as needed.

Arcade brings your question set into interactive games. Keep prompts and answer choices concise, and have learners open the game on a desktop or laptop.

Save and share the updated course

Save text edits to the course draft. For media edits, use Generate, Save, or Accept as shown. Then preview the result.

Select Save to save the course draft. When ready, open Distribute and select Apply changes to learners. Wait for the update to finish. Then follow Publishing and review if the updated course should reach learners. See Edit and review a course for draft and revision handling.

Play the updated media in the course-level Preview to check the pacing, clarity, and fit with the lesson before sharing the course.

Generate images and short clips

In Studio, open Media → Generate media. Images use OpenAI models with optional reference images. Choose Veo for an eight-second clip or Seedance for four, eight, or twelve seconds when Seedance is enabled for your workspace. For Seedance, select a start frame and optionally an end frame from the video’s image library to guide continuity. Reference frames guide the result; review the generated clip before adding it.

Generation runs in the background with a progress shimmer. You can keep editing and return to review the result. The Workspace Assistant can use the same model and reference-frame choices. Generated narration is aligned to its script for measured caption and scene timing.

Branded video creation

The video specialist reads your source material and brand settings before it plans a video. It can combine narration, images, short clips, real screenshots, and animated diagrams. Clear full-screen media does not need an extra text card.

For scenes with several shots, the specialist ties each cut to a phrase in the narration. Captions use a small background with readable contrast. Brand colors, approved artwork, and required brand assets remain part of the plan.

You can ask for a different visual direction or a change to one scene. The specialist uses the editable Studio timeline and motion controls. Studio uses Remotion to render videos; pasting arbitrary Remotion code into a timeline is not supported.

Ask the Agent to use images from a knowledge-base document or attached source. It can copy original screenshots, figures, and walkthrough frames into Studio, then use them as full-screen images or timed overlays. The course keeps a snapshot of the source. SVG diagrams and the first frame of a GIF import as PNG images. New image clips show the whole image by default. Use Framing to fill the frame when you want a crop.

Use short generated clips to show actions or changes. Use slides, source images, and editable diagrams to explain facts. A video can combine both, with captions and brief overlays where they help explain the narration.
